Bretonnians vs. Undead
I've had to fight the undead only once or twice. There are key elements in the undead army that a Bretonnian general should strike for. Anti-magical items, overcoming fear, and avoiding skeletons.
Undead characters tend to be very powerful. The lowest cost general for an undead army is about 350 points. Countering this means using the Bretonnian character allowance to its fullest. Get magic items that provide magical protection, and inprove strength and toughness. Go after the enemy general. If the Undead player has not assumed that you will fight his general, then he won't have leaders in his other units. The magic of this? If the general dies, the rest of the army usually follows.
Necromantic magic something you do not want to see affecting your grail knights. The Curse of Years (shudder) will soon leave your mighty units of knights as piles of dust! Anti-magic virtues (like the virtue of Devotion for characters or the virtue of Purity for units) will go a long way in protecting you. Also, bring a sorceress along just to carry a couple of dispel scrolls. You don't want any magic to get through if you can manage it.
Fear can soon rout any army, even Bretonnian knights. Grail knights, of course, don't suffer these adverse effects, but the other knightly units do. The Dread Banner is a good one to go for. Also remember that if you lose in H-T-H with a unit that causes fear and is bigger than you in numbers (not hard for Bretonnians) than you automatically break! Not very chivalrous, is it? What to do then is to hold up his skeletal units with (gasp) men-at-arms. LOTS of 'em. Hopefully a man can hold his own against skeletons and tie up both units, allowing your knights to run amok the ranks of the undead. (Due to their incredibly slow movement.) With the skeletons tied up, go for the general.
Best units to use against the Undead are a strong unit of Grail Knights, Knights of the Realm, and even some knights errant, since the WS of most undead are fairly low. Use blocks of 20 men-at-arms to tie up skeletons (preferrably with something that nullifies fear) and lots of archers. Because the Undead army is so slow, this will give even the humans a chance to take out a few before they close to H-T-H. Danse Macabre shouldn't even cross your mind since you've already prepared to cancel out most of the enemy's spells.
If the game you're playing allows, there are some "paladin" special characters available that would be perfect against the undead. Try it and see what happens.
